The Prayers of Paul in Ephesians To Know the Love of Christ

The Origin of Love

  • “We love him because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19
  • “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.– John 3:16

The magnitude of Christ’s love

  • Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”  – 1 John 3:16
  • “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice to God to appease His wrath) for our sins.” 1 John 4:10
  • “This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” – John 15:12-13

Paul’s Second Prayer:

  • That the Holy Spirit would strengthen the church!
  • That they would be rooted and grounded in love!
  • That the church would be able to comprehend and know the magnitude and scope of Christ’s love!
  • That the church would be filled with the fullness of God!
  • Is this possible? YES…“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.” – Ephesians 3:20

The fullness of God

  • And of his (Christ) fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” – John 1:16-17
  • Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” – Psalms 16:11
  • For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;” – Colossians 1:19
  • “For in him (Christ) dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” Colossians 2:9

 What to do?

  • Let our faith be rooted and grounded in God’s love – Ephesians 3:17
  • Remember that nothing can separate you from God’s love – Romans 8:37-39
  • Walk in love, like Christ – Ephesians 5:1-2
  • Love in actions, not just words – 1 John 3:16-18
